'Gingerbread Cottage' at Gweek, Cornwall is a grade 2 listed, thatched character cottage which has recently been sympathetically renovated by the owners. It is one of the most photographed buildings in the area and only a few yards from the head of the creek. Just five minutes walk from the local Spar supermarket, post office and famous 'Gweek Inn' public house.
Entered via the original arch doorway into a small lobby area with space for coats and boots and a bookcase with a selection of books and DVDs. The hand crafted kitchen has a slate floor and is very well-equipped, having electric oven and 4-ring ceramic hob with extractor over, combi microwave with grill, fridge with freezer compartment and a small inglenook fireplace with a 'real flame' electric fire. At one end of the kitchen is a dining table and chairs.
The small lounge is beautifully furnished and consists of a two-seater sofa and an armchair with coffee table, LCD TV with freeview and DVD incorporated and real flame electric fire. The ground floor bathroom is all brand new, having laminate flooring, bath with electric shower over and matching toilet and handbasin with a shaver socket adjacent.
A winding staircase leads from the lounge to the upstairs bedroom and dressing room. With 5' king-size bed, bedside tables and lamps, double wardrobe and large chest of drawers. A feature, deep-set window has been turned into a seat and there is another comfy chair in the dressing room providing a quiet reading space.
The emphasis throughout the renovation has been on quality. From the Laura Ashley interior design to the kitchen appliances, even the bedlinen, no expense has been spared.
Outside there is off-road parking for one car and at the rear is a steep, terraced garden with flower beds, lawn, patio and decked area with table and chairs. Heating throughout is by modern storage radiators. Rental includes bedlinen, electricity, heating and towels. Strictly no smoking. One dog will be accepted by prior arrangement at £25 per week.
