Lizard Lighthouse is positioned at the Southern-most tip of mainland Britain and the six newly refurbished adjacent cottages enjoy unrivalled access to breathtaking scenery and coastal walking, literally from the front door. Rare birds, rare flowers and even the occasional school of dolphins can be spotted from the cliff tops surrounding the accommodation, yet you are just a ¼ mile from Lizard village with its friendly pub, shops and restaurants.
The working lighthouse was established in 1619, with the current towers being built in 1752. In 1924 it became the first electrically powered lighthouse before being fully automated in 1998 with a 26 mile light range and an automatic 3 mile fog signal if conditions are misty.
The on-site visitor centre provides tours of the working lighthouse and an opportunity to learn about the work of Trinity House (the number of visitors will not normally affect your privacy).
'Bishop Rock' is the last of the six cottages, being adjacent to the working lighthouse and sleeping four in two bedrooms, offering stunning sea and coastal views across to Bass Point.
An enclosed courtyard leads to the entrance hallway with original slate floor and plenty of room for coats and boots etc. Bathroom immediately off with matching toilet, handbasin and bath with shower over. Also off the hallway is the well-equipped kitchen/diner with electric oven, 4-ring hob with extractor over, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, dining table and seating for four. Further on is the lounge with excellent sea views, comfy seating for four, LCD TV (with Freeview) and DVD player. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with double bed and one with 3' twin beds, both with outstanding sea views, wardrobes, bedside tables and lamps.
Seating is provided in the courtyard, along with a gas BBQ. Parking is provided for one car. Rental includes bedlinen, towels, electricity, central heating, cot and highchair (if required). Regret no smoking. One dog accepted by prior arrangement. Children must be supervised at all times.
Come and see one of the most dramatic coastlines in the world in all its Winter glory!
